What the Texas flag shows

A vertical blue stripe at the staff, one-third of the flag's length, holds a single white five-pointed star with one point upward; the remaining two-thirds is split into two equal horizontal stripes, white above red. Texas law states that the red, white and blue represent bravery, purity and loyalty.

History of the Texas flag

The Republic's first national flag, adopted December 10, 1836, was blue with a central yellow star. The 1839 design replaced it and did not change when Texas joined the Union in 1845.
