Congressional membership
Names, IDs, office terms and official contact information come from the unitedstates/congress-legislators project. We check both its current roster and mandate dates. Term starts are inclusive and ends are exclusive. Vacancies mean occupied-seat counts may be lower than the number of authorized seats.
Current and historical service
Current status refers to the roster snapshot date. Scheduled term ends are labeled as scheduled. Historical profiles are published to support documented collections and known legacy links; this is not a complete publication of all congressional history. A person who has served in both chambers can have a separate page for each role.
Religion, heritage and identity
Demographic assertions are linked to named sources for individual people. Religious affiliation is a dated observation, generally from Pew Research Center’s January 2025 member survey. It is not a live assessment of beliefs. Heritage lists follow the categories used by the Senate Historical Office or House Historian. We never infer identity from photographs, surnames or exclusion from another group.
Coverage and unknowns
Pew’s 119th Congress religion survey covered 532 incoming voting members. Members outside that source remain unclassified unless another source is cited. A list without current members may still have relevant historical records. Missing information means unknown, not none.
Dates and refreshes
Roster dates describe when membership data was checked. Published dates identify dated research; accessed dates identify when an undated source was checked. The source coverage describes which survey, Congress or historical period applies. Population figures are July 2025 Census estimates. Updates are currently run manually. The roster date shows the latest published check, not a guarantee of daily updates. Updates must pass validation before publication; failed validation leaves the previous release intact.
Corrections
A correction should identify the affected page, the disputed field, a proposed replacement and a supporting public source. We prioritize official records and direct public self-identification. Unresolved evidence should be marked unknown rather than silently guessed.
