Martha McSally was a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Arizona. McSally lost the general election on November 6, 2018, after advancing from the primary on August 28, 2018. On December 18, 2018, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) announced the appointment of McSally to the U.S. Senate to replace Sen. Jon Kyl (R). Kyl, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate in September 2018 after the death of former Sen. John McCain (R), announced that he would resign as of December 31, 2018.
